Cutting of the short frenulum of the penis (frenulotomy) and plastic correction of the short frenulum of the penis (frenuloplasty) are the most commonly performed operations on the penis in both children and adults. In children from 3 years and adolescents up to 18 years, we perform it under general anesthesia.

This ensures a painless and calm procedure for the child and adolescent. In adults, we perform frenulum cutting / frenulotomy on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. If an adult patient also wishes general anesthesia, this procedure can also be performed under general anesthesia.

Before this children’s operation, we first meet at our outpatient clinic in Bratislava or Piešťany, where we examine the child and evaluate the condition of the frenulum, foreskin and possibly other penile anomalies, agree on the operation date and preoperative preparation.

After preoperative examination by their pediatrician, the boy undergoes anesthesiological preoperative examination a few days before the operation.

The child comes to the day surgery center in Bratislava on the day of the operation in the morning hours, fasting and accompanied by parents. If pubic hair around the genitals is already developed, it is necessary to shave it in the home environment the day before the procedure.

What happens after frenulotomy / frenuloplasty in general anesthesia?

After the operation, the child stays for several hours in bed in the postoperative room in the presence of a parent. Subsequently, after the postoperative visit and parent instruction, he leaves home in their company. Parents continue care and wound dressing at home according to the doctor’s instructions until complete healing.
