In boys, the hydrocele sac usually communicates with the abdominal cavity, the condition is called communicating hydrocele.

Boys’ hydrocele surgery is a therapeutic measure for this disease. Hydrocele surgery in children is not identical to hydrocele surgery in adult patients. Therefore, it is good if it is performed by a pediatric urologist. By adjusting the testicular coverings and resection, the hydrocele sac along with the communicating channel and fluid is removed. Hydrocele surgery is performed under general anesthesia / artificial sleep / and usually takes 15 to 30 minutes.

After surgery, the child goes home on the day of surgery. The condition does not require hospitalization. Hydrocele surgery has a good aesthetic effect, the testicle is fully functional after surgery and normal in size again. The testicle size normalizes within 3 weeks to 3 months.

After preoperative examination with your pediatrician, he undergoes anesthesiological preoperative examination a few days before surgery.

The child comes to the day surgery center in Bratislava on the day of surgery in the morning hours, fasting and accompanied by parents. If pubic hair around the genitals has already developed, it needs to be shaved at home the day before the procedure.

What happens after boys’ hydrocele surgery?

After surgery, the child stays for several hours in bed in the postoperative room in the presence of a parent. Then after the postoperative visit and parent briefing, he goes home accompanied by the parent. Parents continue wound care and dressing at home according to doctor’s instructions until complete healing. After one to two weeks we will see each other for a check-up at our outpatient clinic.
