What is sperm analysis?

If you want to know your fertility, you can have a sperm analysis performed at our workplace (in Bratislava or Piešťany). For sperm analysis examination, it is necessary to bring fresh (not older than 1 hour) ejaculate, preferably in a sterile test tube with a wider neck (usually available at the pharmacy), or directly at our workplace to provide ejaculate.

We examine male semen after at least 3 days of sexual abstinence. The result is an assessment of male fertility. Comprehensive examination also includes examination of hormonal profile, test for sexually transmitted infections (if necessary) and physical examination of genitals by a urologist.

Our workplace does not only examine sperm analysis, but also performs comprehensive examination of men with analysis of causes of infertility and its subsequent treatment (antioxidants, hormonal treatment, antibiotics, surgical treatment of varicocele by microsurgical technique and vasectomy reversal).

How does sperm analysis work?

Before examination, it is necessary to observe 3 to 5 days of sexual abstinence. The patient delivers fresh ejaculate directly at the clinic or brings a sample in a sterile test tube that must not be older than 1 hour. In the laboratory, key sperm parameters are then evaluated — count, motility, shape, ejaculate volume and other indicators that allow assessment of male reproductive ability.
