Penile Curvature or Peyronie’s Disease or Induratio Penis Plastica (IPP) is a disease of the penis that is characterised by growth of fibrous inflammatory tissue “plaques” in the soft tissue of the penis. These plaques or scar tissue forms in the parts of the penis which are directly involved in erection.The first symptom to appear is usually pain, in the region where the growth of the plaque occurs. This plaque/ fibrous tissue continue to grow and may even become calcified. If untreated this can lead to pain, abnormal curvature, erectile dysfunction, indentation, loss of girth and shortening of the penis and frequently the inability to engage in sexual activity. The sooner the condition is diagnosed and treated, the higher the chances of full recovery. With early medical intervention the condition can usually be succesfuly arrested, preventing pain and penile deformation.
