PROCEDURE CHARACTERISTICS

Penile Curvature or Peyronie’s Disease or Induratio Penis Plastica (IPP) is a disease of the penis that is characterised by growth of fibrous inflammatory tissue “plaques” in the soft tissue of the penis. These plaques or scar tissue forms in the parts of the penis which are directly involved in erection. The first symptom to appear is usually pain, in the region where the growth of the plaque occurs. This plaque/ fibrous tissue continue to grow and may even become calcified. If untreated this can lead to pain, abnormal curvature, erectile dysfunction, indentation, loss of girth and shortening of the penis and frequently the inability to engage in sexual activity. The sooner the condition is diagnosed and treated, the higher the chances of full recovery. With early medical intervention the condition can usually be succesfuly arrested, preventing pain and penile deformation. If you are suffering from penile pain or can feel any hardened nodules or lumps in your penis we strongly advise you book a consultation, as this may help prevent devastating symptoms such as further pain, penile deformation and impotence. Severe cases which show considerable deformation can only be treated surgically. Surgical intervention often carries the risk of impotence due to nerve and vascular damage of the penis.

Our clinic can provide a broad range of treatments for all stages of the Peyronie’s Disease. Our treatments include:

– ESWT – Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy: this is a non-invasive and pain-free treatment using specially directed shock waves into the affected parts of the penis with minimal-to-no side effects

– Anti-inflamatory or enzyme injection therapy: this is minimally-invasive and mild discomfort during the procedure is usually well tolerated. Injection therapy does not carry the risk of impotence.

– Surgical treatment are also available for severe cases

For man with blood coagulation disorders.

If you are using medicaments, please inform us 7 days before. You have to modify or discontinue medical treatment with influence to blood coagulation 7 days before procedure after consultation with your physician. Please shave your genital area one day before procedure.

ESWT treatments are pain-free. Following injection therapy into the lesion on the penis, it is common to experience some bruising and mild discomfort in the area during the procedure (usually subsides within 5 minutes). With our range of treatments and professional experience, we can confidently say that we are able to arrest disease progression and stop penile pain in all our patients. If the disease is treated early (usually within 3 months of the appearance of initially symptoms) we can fully reverse any hardened nodules, penile deformation and pain. If the treatment begins after the 3 month window, we are still able to fully arrest disease progression, stop pain and help our patients regain their ability to engage in sexual activities. If the disease is more advanced we may not be able to fully reverse and treat the hardening or penile deformation, however an improvement in the condition can usually be achieved and is enough to return adequate sexual function for our patients.
